Adrian Nation, Skylark Song, Nick Brown

Tuesday 18th October 2016

A talented, committed musician in his youth, Adrian describes his first compositions as “the ramblings of a searching teenager”. He may ramble less these days, but his search continues, and he has evolved into one of the most insightful and incisive songwriters of his generation.

Influenced at an early age by the genius of Bob Dylan and the melodic fluidity of Mark Knopfler’s haunting guitar, Adrian’s teenage eyes and ears were truly opened when the late Isaac Guillory “played the guitar like I had never seen” (“Diamonds in the Stream”, Sowing Seeds, 2003). Reflecting on this experience Adrian says, “Suddenly the acoustic guitar was a much bigger instrument than I ever thought it could be. My mind was set.”

“…hard to believe there’s only one man on stage.” (Rock Society Magazine)

“…a superior fingerstyle troubadour.” (Guitar and Bass Magazine)

“…a prodigiously talented fingerpicking guitarist.” (R2 Magazine)

“…an acoustic guitar master.” (Maverick Magazine)

Building on the success of their first demo (NARC magazine’s ‘Demo of the month’) Skylark Song grew out of a mutual love of warm melodies, close harmonies and the odd natural lyrical reference. After sharing a stage with the likes of Ben Howard and gracing the stages on Ingleton Folk Festival and Willowman Festival, Skylark Song recorded their debut album at the renowned Blast Recording Studios (The Unthanks, Therapy) in April 2013. Their Debut single was released in July 2013 to much critical acclaim with The Crack Magazine describing it as “Utterly gorgeous” and “the kind of folk music that feels like it’s been constructed from hedgerows and wild flowers”. Their second album, ‘May The Hunter Retreat’ was released in November 2015

Nick’s day job in Computational Fluid Dynamics has stunted his growth as a touring artist, but he is well known on the North East music scene as a committed and insightful singer-songwriter. He is currently recording his debut album with Intuitive Productions and plans to tour the hell out of it next year when his Annual Leave allowance is renewed!
