Bert Verso ——

One fifth of beat collective Grey Tapes, producer and DJ, Bert Verso’s productions are informed by his endless search for the “perfect beat”, as he puts it. With no laptops in sight, he makes music exclusively on hardware samplers, synths and drum machines. He feels drawn to exploration of the immediacy of analogue machines and this lends his music a certain direct quality as well as it’s unique sound palette.

A hip-hop head and master of the seminal AKAI MPC, his 2012 ‘Dulcet EP’ weaves boombap beats, Juno 6 basslines and heavily cut-up samples from his expansive record collection. His current work retains a similar aesthetic, staying true to his roots with dusty samples, melodic analogue synths and bold rhythms, whilst experimenting with different tempos and dynamic drum patterns to strike the perfect balance between dance music and deeper headphone listening.

As a vinyl junkie with a keen eye for colour and style, Verso naturally beholds the visual presentation of music. His artwork sees him take pops of electric blue and neon coral from the printed ephemera in his studio, collaged together with layers of line drawings from his childhood when, instead of Disney characters, he would colour-in pictures of Buddha Shakyamuni with his family.

He is now poised to release his debut album, Internal Shlurpee, on Kaneda Records, featuring 7 brand new infectious, beat-driven offerings. Including lead track ‘Dumbshit’ which is injected with the energy of Chicago footwork, exploring his love of the frenetic drum patterns and transitions that the genre is known for. If you like melodic drum machine workouts you have most definitely come to the right place.

Calm C. —–

A music producer and digital media artist from Belfast. After releasing his debut album ‘Trambient’ in 2017, his work has expanded into new forms such as sound reactive sculpture and audio visual experimentation.

Central to his work across all platforms is a strong commitment to rhythm, dark energy and mesmeric repetition. Calm C. is a massive fan of remixing local artists so you can be sure to hear some of your favourite North East reimagined in his live set.

Goa Flashbacks (Acid Waxa) ——-

The Acid Waxa bossman steps in for a rare appearance. Expect plenty of squelchy 303 sounds, heavily influenced by video game music. This is the soundtrack to that night in with your vintage console.
