For June’s edition of Endless Window at The Cumberland Arms, we’re proud to present one of the most exciting new bands in the country alongside some established EW favourites. Need to know more? Then read on…
Formed in late 2015, the trio that comprise Drahla – Luciel Brown, Rob Riggs and Mikey Ainsley – have quickly established themselves as a dynamic and unique proposition. A clutch of singles and EPs produced by MJ of Hookworms and shows with acts like Metz, Parquet Courts and Ought have already brought them significant acclaim for their intelligent, abstract but undeniably visceral take on post-punk and art-rock. As such, we’re delighted to welcome them to Endless Window as part of their forthcoming UK tour.
Year Of Birds
Having already impressed (or should that be smashed?) a couple of Endless Window crowds, the Boro’s finest return once more. Year Of Birds offer piledriver riffs, antagonistic attitude and absurdist wit in abundance, with their superb recorded work (check out last year’s fantastic Odd Box Records release White Death To Power Alan for starters) matched only by the sheer force of their live show. With the band taking a brief hiatus later in 2018 to focus on other projects, don’t miss this chance to get your YOB fix.
Completing the bill are Newcastle-by-Northumbria art-rock oddities Profumo, who most recent EP Cosy Catastrophe encompassed doomy post-punk, post-Talking Heads funk and pristine Laurel Canyon balladry. With new material on the way later in the year, why not find out for yourself just what ‘capsized yacht-rock’ really means?
